I was hesitant to introduce chocolates in N’s diet. I knew he would love it and want more of it. I didn’t buy chocolates until he was over a year old and kept him away from it for as long as I could. Well, what do you know! Where do you think he got the first taste of chocolate? At the pediatrician’s clinic. I kid you not. Every time we visit N’s doctor, N gets a toffee. It is like a ritual and N looks forward to visiting the doctor. He is the only kid I know who is all excited about visiting his doctor.

I know I can request the doctor not to give him a chocolate, but what really bothers me is the fact that people give chocolates as gifts for every occasion. My colleague decided to drop by to collect something and he got a packet full of chocolates for N. My cousin came over for a stay and she had a box of chocolates. We visited an aunt of mine and she promptly gave some toffees to N. I know their intentions are all good, but chocolates are not really the best choice for a gift. N loves chocolates and it breaks my heart to refuse him a chocolate, so I don’t buy any. The only chocolates we have at home are all gifts and I have a big box full of them. N knows this and keeps digging into it every now and then.

I am guilty of this very mistake before I stood on this side of the court. I would have a handful of chocolates in my bag and would offer it to anyone and everyone. Never bothered about whether the parents were okay with it. Now that I am a mother myself, I understand people have opinions and chocolates may not be that welcome in every household.

I think fruits will make a better gift. Most of the kids love fruits and they are much more nutritious and filling than chocolates! Any other better gift ideas?

I have been tagged by Anuradha. The tag sounds interesting and I was curious to see what will turn up as my sixth photo in my sixth photo folder. And this is what it is.

This photograph was taken from our balcony in our new house. When we moved into this house, we were ecstatic about the view of the forest. The balcony and the huge window in the hall give us beautiful, breathtaking views of the adjoining greenery. On one of those unexpected rainy days of Bangalore, the forest looked beautiful. Once the rain stopped, little droplets of water hung on every branch and leaf, ready to fall. My husband captured one such moment. I think the photo has come out well. With the focus on the water droplets and background slightly hazy, it makes for a great photo.

I don’t know who to tag, so if you are reading this, you are tagged!

French Open 2008

leave a comment »

If I want to describe French Open 2008 in one word, then it has to be ‘Disappointing’. While Australian Open had nerve-wrecking matches like Nadal vs. Tsonga, Djokovic vs. Federer and of course the finals Djokovic vs. Tsonga, French Open had very little to offer to the viewers.

Most of us expected a Nadal vs. Federer finals, but I was hoping Djokovic will give a tough fight to Nadal. I thought this match will be better than the finals, but I was so wrong. Djokovic was nowhere as aggressive as he was in Australian Open and ATP Masters series. Nadal made almost no mistakes and he had an easy win. The finals was another disappointment altogether. Since when has Federer begun to lose a set 6-0? So all those rumours about Federer losing his steam is true? He did look tired and dejected in the finals. And where oh where is Tsonga? I was hoping he will play in the French Open atleast. After treating the viewers with the amazing semi and finals in Australian Open, he can’t just disappear!

The women’s front was disappointing even before the series began because of Henin’s retirement. She was my favorite among women and her retirement came as a surprise for me. She was so light footed on court and played her match so strategically. I was hoping to see her in action again this year, but she disappointed us all by pulling out. Surprisingly though, the women’s series was much better than the men’s, thanks to Dinara Safina. Her match against Sharapova has to be the best match of the series. When she was down by a match point in the second set, I almost knew she will lose. I didn’t wait till the match ended and switched to some other channel. I come back after a few minutes and what do I see? Safina actually went on to win! She tried hard in the finals but Ivanovic was too good for her. Ana Ivanovic has improved her game so much. There is a marked difference in her since the Australian Open against Sharapova. Talking about the latter, her game was floppy in French Open, to say the least.

The whole series was a huge disappointment. Let’s hope Wimbledon will be better. I have a feeling Federer will not retain his title. Any bets?
